Reading List (October 2013)

27 Oct

I have been quite busy this month, but I have still managed to get some reading done! Here are the books I have read so far this month:

  1. Haunting Violet – Alyxandra Harvey
  2. The Lives We Lost – Megan Crewe
  3. Halloween Trivia – Tonya Lambert

Haunting Violet

I found this book rather interesting. One thing that I didn’t like is the overuse of the word SWOON. I hate when words are repeated too many times in one chapter! Drives me crazy.

Violet Willoughby doesn’t believe in ghosts. But they believe in her. After spending years participating in her mother’s elaborate ruse as a fraudulent medium, Violet is about as skeptical as they come in all matters supernatural. Now that she is being visited by a very persistent ghost, one who suffered a violent death, Violet can no longer ignore her unique ability. She must figure out what this ghost is trying to communicate, and quickly because the killer is still on the loose.

Afraid of ruining her chance to escape her mother’s scheming through an advantageous marriage, Violet must keep her ability secret. The only person who can help her is Colin, a friend she’s known since childhood, and whom she has grown to love. He understands the true Violet, but helping her on this path means they might never be together. Can Violet find a way to help this ghost without ruining her own chance at a future free of lies?

The Lives We Lost

As I mentioned in my last reading list, I was trying to get my hands on a copy of this book. Now I finally have it! I have not finished reading this one yet (I am near the end), but I love it!

First, the virus took Kaelyn’s friends. Then, her family. Now it’s taken away her home.

But she can’t look back—the life she once had is gone forever.

A deadly virus has destroyed Kaelyn’s small island community and spread beyond the quarantine. No one is safe. But when Kaelyn finds samples of a vaccine in her father’s abandoned lab, she knows there must be someone, somewhere, who can replicate it. As Kaelyn and her friends head to the mainland, they encounter a world beyond recognition. It’s not only the “friendly flu” that’s a killer—there are people who will stop at nothing to get their hands on the vaccine. How much will Kaelyn risk for an unproven cure, when the search could either destroy those she loves or save the human race?

Halloween Trivia

I absolutely adore this book! It is the cutest thing ever! I contains folklore, jokes, customs passed down through out the ages, and much more! It was definitely worth buying.

Halloween is one of the most celebrated times of the year among North Americans. Find out in this fun-filled, fascinating collection of little-known facts about all of the odd customs of Halloween and where they originated.

(All summaries from Goodreeds )

That’s all for now! Feel free to leave some suggestions on what books I should read. Who knows, maybe it will be in next month’s reading list (plus credits to you for the suggestion). 🙂

How to Make: Blueberry Pancakes + BONUS: FRUIT SAUCE

26 Sep
I love pancakes!!!!

I love pancakes!!!!

Make sure you follow my blog!

  • 1 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 Tbsp. melted butter or vegetable oil
  • 1/4 tsp. vanilla extract (I always add more – I LOVE vanilla!!!)

1. In a large bowl combine all the dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar).  Mix the ingredients slowly.
2. In a small bowl, beat an egg thoroughly. The slowly add milk to the egg mixture.
3. Make a well in the dry ingredients and slowly add the egg-milk mixture. Add the melted butter OR vegetable oil and vanilla. Stir quickly until ingredients are mixed. If there is too much milk and the pancake mixture is too drippy, just add some more flour.
4. Spread some remaining melted butter (if you have any left over from before – if not just use some vegetable oil) on a pan.  Cook pancakes until they are filled with bubbles and the under-side in golden brown. Turn and brown the other side.

Prep time: 10 min | Cook time: 10 min | Total time: 20 min

Number of servings (yield): 2-4 (Depending on how many pancakes each person will eat. Personally, I need to make double the portion to be able to feed four people…)

  • Seasonal fruits
  • brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp. of butter

1.  Cut fruits (Unless you are using blueberries, obviously) which ever way you prefer.

2.  And butter, fruits, and sugar into a pot. Let it simmer for 5-7 minutes (if you want chunks of fruit in your sauce let it simmer for just a few minutes, if you don;t want any chunks let it simmer for a longer time). While cooking, stir the sauce thoroughly.

3.  And VOILA! Your fruit sauce is ready!
